Becoming a citizen of the United States is a dream many people endure and long for. It is the best coveted gifts the government can bestow upon an immigrant. There are two primary ways to become a citizen of the United States. If you were born in the United States then you are automatically a United States citizen. If you were born to parents who are United States citizens and who reside in the United States then citizenship will be a rather simple task.
The other popular method of becoming a citizen of the United States is through naturalization. Naturalization is when the government gives a foreigner citizenship after they fulfill many requirements by the government. These requirements include things like length of time you reside in the United States, why you are here, if you are an upstanding citizen, and if you believe in the government and agree to the laws. When people illegally come to the United States they try to gain citizenship through this method. Many people are turned away and many people are approved. There are many people who live in the US illegally so they can benefit to the higher wages and the better life.
There are many people who gain citizenship by marrying an American citizen. If it is clear that you married an American to become a citizen then you could go to jail. Your marriage must be real and this method can take years for the government to approve you. If you are married to an American in another country then you may never be able to gain access into the country and the marriage may not count. You might have to get remarried in the United States to make it valid.
Another way people are approved for citizenship is by having a baby in the United States. Many people come to the US illegally and have their baby in the country. When the baby is born then the baby is a citizen, which immediately gives the parents a form of citizenship. It is important to remember that if you become a citizen this way then you may be forced to leave the country when the child turns 18 and becomes an adult. All you can do is try to legally ask for citizenship while your child is growing and hope the government approves it.
